Gala Bingo hall for sale!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

It’s a sad sight, but yet another UK Gala Bingo hall has closed down and is up for sale. If you’ve got a spare £1.2 million to hand – why not buy your own bingo hall!

The landmarket Nuneaton building is back on the market after a previous sale of £1.5 million fell through, causing the sellers to offer it for a cut-price £1.2 million.

The building use to the Ritz Cinema when first built in 1937, two years before the start of the Second World War. It was nearly 50 years later the cinema closed down to become the iconic UK bingo hall in 1984. Gala Bingo decided to halt operations at the Nuneaton bingo venue because of rationalisation of its properties all over the UK.

The actual plot of land is in a great location, and covers 15,000 square foot. There had been rumours of a Primark being built there, but the surveyors marketing the site accept that it may well turn into residential housing with a commercial element on the ground floor of the development.

This is yet another example of the state of the land-based bingo industry, with more and more players converting to the online bingo option. With no need to move from the comfort of your own home, and increased financial pressures on the industry and its players, the cheaper option is rapidly becoming the popular option.

Let me know what you think about the state of the UK online and offline bingo industry…

Bingo attracting more Males

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Bingo is traditionally seen as a game for middle or old aged women who visit their local hall once a week. However, with the rapid growth of online Bingo companies, more males are participating in games. The online gambling market has attracted millions of players some who would never of played Bingo before, many of these are males who traditionally stick to playing poker and casino games.

Sveabingo.com claims 40% of their users are now male. Many believe men are being attracted to the game due to the relaxed atmosphere, prizes on offer and features online bingo sites provide. Sveabingo.com is a leading bingo site in Sweden, and has adopted an image of Swedish national colours. Many online bingo sites only target females, using bright colours as well as offering special feminine prizes such as spa days and shopping spree trips.

“The relaxed atmosphere in our bingo chatrooms also seem to attract more and more men, probably because it’s very different from what they are used to in their preferred poker rooms.” says Börje Hansson of Sveabingo.com

The prizes in Bingo are just as large as poker and casino, and more players are therefore turning to online bingo, in a bid to win big. Sevabingo.com’s promotions are also suited for male players, as they can win  SuperPresentkort voucher’s which can be spent on F1 tickets, flying lesson’s and several other masculine prizes.

Online Bingo keeps growing and growing

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

We all know that online bingo has been growing for several years now, but may predicted this growth will slow down. In spite of this, new reports into the industry show that Bingo is continuing its impressive growth, with the bingo sector earning £650 million in revenue. Several sites have been at the forefront of this growth including companies such as Gala Bingo, Foxy Bingo and William Hill.

Many traditional high street bookies have adopted online bingo into their businesses services resulting in more people playing than ever before. Ladbrokes, William Hill, Bet Fred and Bet 365 all now include online bingo sites for their customers to use and the game is now incorporated into most online gaming companies. A game which was once seen as unfashionable, for old women only and a dying tradition, is now played by all ages, male and female and viewed as a great way to have fun whilst winning money.

The growth is expected to continue even in the current difficult economic times, as past recession’s have not had a major impact on the gaming industry. More and more features are being added to bingo sites. Chat rooms, forums, community areas, profile building and other forms of entertainment are now included in sites as they develop into social networking areas. Soon everyone will be playing bingo and I can only see the industry growing bigger and bigger!

Let us know what you think of the growth online bingo industry. For example some people are against it, claiming that Bingo Hall’s are being left in the lurch. Leave a comment below and make sure to visit us at Bingo news UK again soon!

Mecca Bingo makes deal for handheld gaming devices

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Many in the industry believe technology will be the saviour of everyone in the gambling world. Either way, the new handheld devices, created by eQude, brings state-of-the-art technology to gamblers at Mecca Bingo

Players will be able to use the 8” or 10“ colour handheld with touch-screen features to play their favourite bingo games along with other interactive content at all bingo halls operated by Mecca bingo. The bingo operator signed a deal with eQube to bring this new innovation to their players.

“This represents a major milestone and validation of our new handheld bingo device,” said Gary Gardner, president and CEO of eQube. “By securing a contract with Mecca, one of the premier operators of bingo halls in the United Kingdom, we are demonstrating the acceptance of our handheld by customers and our ability to penetrate international markets.”

This new innovation is really exciting and I think it will change the face of bingo in the coming years, as we turn from paper cards to electronic display.

79 year old woman hits bingo jackpot!

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Ada Borrowdale, 79, of Gayle Avenue, Shap, won a huge bingo jackpot worth £27,000 at the Opera Bingo Club in Penrith.

Ada plans to spend the money on her family – she has 8 children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

“It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” Borrowdale said. “I’ve never really had that kind of money in my life.”

This win is comes only a week after Ada’s brother’s death, who died of liver cancer at the age of 81. Ada nursed him for 15 months before he passed away, so times have been kind of hard for her.

“People said I deserved this with what I’d been through and how I’d helped him,” she said. “I think he would have been more thrilled than I am.”

This wasn’t her first time at the game of bingo by far, in fact she’s been playing at the club in Penrith for about 10 years and finally took home the National Bingo jackpot.

“It’s very exciting when you have a big win in the club,” said Ethel Nicholl, Opera manager. “Everyone is really happy for her.”

This is a really great story that just makes me want to go play some bingo and see if I can’t win a huge jackpot. I think I will!
