Big Brother 9 finalist Mikey, 33 years old from Ayrshire, missed out on being crowned the winner by 1.3% of the votes to fellow contestant Rachel, attended his local school to spend the afternoon playing Bingo! Three local accounting students organized the charity bingo event to help raise money for Ayshire Cancer Care Foundation.

Mikey, who lost his sight at the age of 23 following a haemorrhaged during an operation hosted the event in aid of the chosen charity. He spent the day calling the bingo numbers, chatting with students and set aside some time after the event to pose for pictures.

“All in all it was a very successful event and we were delighted with the amount of money raised for North Ayrshire Cancer Care, which is run entirely by volunteers and provides amazing service to cancer patients and their families.”

Maybe the success of the event will encourage Mikey and others to host and attend future charity bingo events to help raise more money to support other charities too!

Bingo Is The Elixir Of Youth!!

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

It’s all about keeping active! Keeping your mind and body active can reduce the onset of disabilities by a staggering 65% and can ward of mental illnesses including dementia.

Bingo effectively allows you to keep your mind and body active, either in halls or if you play bingo online at sites such as Gala Bingo. Playing can help reduce the decline of motor function- a characteristic of old age, according to the Archives of Internal Medicine Journal.

“These data raise the possibility that social engagement can slow motor function decline and possibly delay adverse health outcomes from such decline. Further work is needed to ensure that this is a causal relationship,” says the report, after a five year study that had 96 participants.

The social aspect of playing bingo in halls helps you stay young; this is simply by regularly having chats with friends, as the game is embedded in social community. Even if the person already has reported health problems the effects of aging seem to be reduced.

Some pretty good news! Long live bingo and its players!

Euro Millions Jackpot winner bought ticket in Spain

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Now while it is very likely that you have already heard , I thought i might just tell the few that have not yet been informed about the outcome of Friday’s euro millions jackpot.

The eye popping amount of £113 million was won by one lucky ticket holder according to the national lottery. Although as of yet the ticket holder has not come forward to claim their winnings.

The lucky number were 4, 23, 24,29, 31 and the star numbers were 8 and 9.

As far as lottery officials know the, winning ticket was purchased in Spain, and has led many to believe the winner of the mammoth jackpot is a Spanish resident.

However officials say that as the ticket was bought in the capital, Madrid, it could be that the ticket was bought by a tourist, meaning the multi-millionaaire winner could be unaware of their win. The the combination of numbers make the games extremely difficult to win with 79 million to 1 odds of one line winning.

This Friday’s Euro millions is an estimated £13 million and although not quite 113 it is still a life changing amount.

Online Bingo still holding strong

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Despite all the doom and gloom that seems to surround us, we can always count on bingo to be there.
The online bingo industry has found itself on the minority side of things, when it comes to succes this year.

With bingo sites offering amazing promotions and offers it really no wonder, more people than ever are clicking on and joining in.
Hundreds of sites are launching themselves into the industry and fighting fiercely to gain their share of the online bingo population.

One such site is Posh Bingo, who recently re-launched their site, and have dedicated two of its bingo rooms to free bingo, giving away £40,000 a month in cash prizes.

All day, every day, players are given the opportunity to win real cash for free.

If you were to ask some people in the world of bingo they would say the the free bingo concept was starrted by Cheeky Bingo who only themselves launched in February.

The industry as a whole even spent over £7million last year on advertising, with the likes of Foxy Bingo spending a quarter of that alone.

With other sites like, Minxy Bingo, Wink Bingo and Bet365 Bingo all advertising on tv as well at the moment.
I think it safe to say the UK online bingo industry is going strong, helping keep a silver lining in an otherwise grey cloud economy.

Sharons Bingo

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

I’m sure you’ve probablty heard by now, but just in case you hadn’t, here it is. Sharon osbourne has launched her very own online bingo site.

Yes that’s right, Sharon Osbourne, wife of Ozzy Osbourne and self confessed bingo lover, has finally come out with her own bingo site.

She’s teamed up with Gala Coral, to create it, much like Sharon it is very bright pink and in your face.

It’s been long coming really, with all the promotions she’s done for Gala bingo it was only a matter of time before she ventured out on her own.

Bingo Fans and fans of Sahron Osbourne will love the site. and pretty much every page has an animation of Sharon Osbourne, so she never leaves you alone.

The site has only been live for a few weeks, but players have already flocked to the site, especailly as it’s giving away £10 free to all new sign up’s.

The site has a realy friendly feel to it, with the chat rooms buzzing.

I would definitely recommend that you try out Sharons Bingo

Mecca Bingo’s New Site

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

I’m sure you’ll agree when I say Mecca Bingo is probably the largest bingo brand in the country. It’s been around for years and is still going strong.

Recently they even had a re-vamp of their online bingo website.
Now while some will say there was no need, or that it has made the site somewhat too simplistic. I’d say yes the site was fine how it was, but the revamp has, if anything made it better.

The site is easier to navigate, there is a larger range of games, and a whole line up of new promotions. Personally I think players will like the re-vamp, it’s bright and colourful, but changes with each page so it doesn’t get repetitive

Mecca Bingo are also doing a first in launching an Online Bingo Championship. Apparently it’s never been done before and they’re giving players the opportunity to qualifier for it in the first 3 weeks of April.

A 3 Huge jackpot games for the qualifiers will see more than £30,000 up for grabs.

Mecca Bingo definitely know how to launch, don’t they?

Online Bingo Spends Millions on Advertising

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

A new report from Whichbingo.co.uk has found that the uk online bingo industry spent more than $10million on television advertsing for 2008.

According to the report by Which bingo the biggest spender of all was Foxy Bingo spending a whopping $3.27million.

But it seems new bingo site Tombola.co.uk planned to make a statement by spending over $2.5million too.
Between the two, Foxy Bingo and Tombola.co.uk, they spent more than the rest of the industry put together.

Judging from these figures, its understandable why the online bingo market is still growing at the rate it is. With operators pumping so much into advertising, they are bound to get a large number of players joining the ranks.

Other big spenders included Think Bingo and Party Bingo both spending around the $1million mark.

What was surprising in the report hoever was that, both Gala Bingo and Mecca Bingo, two of the largest bingo operators in the UK, were not on the ‘big spenders’ list. Neither spent anything on television advertising for 2008.

A lucky player at 777 bingo won  the progressive jackpot on the Fruit Mania slot game, not once, but twice last week! 777 bingo have several jackpot winners but few win a jackpot twice the space of 2 months. His first Jackpot win won him $16,381.90 but this amount was added to after he won a whopping extra $76,103 on the same game.

Fire at former Bingo Hall

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The last thing bingo halls need now are fires burning down their once bustling building. As land based bingo halls are hit with economic difficulties and smoking ban legislation, on former hall was the scene of a vicious fire. The hall in Windsor was formerly known as the Bingo Rama Palace and was located on Dufferin Avenue.

The fire allegedly started in the electrical room of the building but the damage of the blaze is still relativley unknown. Firefighters battled the fire which broke out on Saturday, and had to remove part of the patio roof to beat the fire. Thankfully no one was hurt in the blaze.

The rise of online bingo forced several land based hall to shut. Other regulars were forced out because of the smoking ban introduced to all public areas last year. The online market is now believed to be worth around £600 million and is rapidly growing, with player numbers doubling in a year.
